Google’s December 2022 Link Spam Update, Updated EEAT Guidelines, Visuals, Status Dashboard, Content Ideas & More

This was a busy week, and I honestly thought it would start to wind down, but I was wrong; I’m very wrong. Google released another algorithm update, the December 2022 Link Spam Update, which incorporated the update into SpamBrain. Google also released a big update to the Guidelines for Search Quality Raters, adding an E to EAT for experience. Google released a new gallery of visuals documenting the names of various Google search features. Google has also launched a status dashboard to let us know if Google Search is having issues or outages with indexing, crawling, or service. Google is testing featured snippets, not position zero and also rolling out those insights more broadly. Google is shutting down Question Hub, but content ideas in Search Console could replace it. Google said there is no useful content score or threshold. Google said write content however you want, it can be diverse, just write for your people. Google said that pagination appearing and disappearing from the index is normal, but it is also on the verge of indexing and quality. Google said that 500/503 status codes for your robots.txt file can ultimately lead to your entire site being removed from Google. Google said that banning tracking is not the best way to remove your site from Google. Google’s John Mueller said that using expired or reused domains is wasteful SEO. Google Ads has added four new information pages. Microsoft Advertising will require verification from financial advertisers in the UK. Google Business Profiles added a way to delete business profiles. A study says that Google Local Guides reviews last longer. Also, Google posted the Hanukkah decorations this week, Hanukkah is this Sunday, have a good time! And if you want to help sponsor those vlogs, go to patreon.com/barryschwartz. That was the search news this week at the Search Engine Roundtable.
